Symposium at GIK Institute: Education termed must for development, prosperity

SWABI: The objectives of economic development and prosperity of people cannot be achieved without educating the younger generation.

This was stated by the speakers at a prize distribution ceremony here on Monday at “International Science and Youth Symposium” held at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology. The symposium was organised by the Science Society of GIK Institute. Students and young engineers from other parts of the country attended the symposium. They expressed their views on the significant role played by science in the economic development of a country.

Dr Abdullah Sadiq, a scientist, said that true and durable progress could only be made possible by modern education and institutions/universities like GIK Institute.

He appreciated the important role played by universities like GIK for providing conducive environment to the students to acquire quality knowledge in the fields of engineering sciences and technologies over a quarter of a century.

Dr Sadiq paid tributes to the founder of GIK Institute and former president late Ghulam Ishaq Khan for establishing the GIK Institute to serve the nation and provide quality education.

A few other known educationists including Shahveer Jafry, Christian Betzmann, a German expert, Shaveer Jafry, Rohal Varyind, Moiz Shaukat and Ahsan Ahmad Durrani also called on the youngsters to concentrate on studies for changing their lives and building a bright future in Pakistan as well as abroad.

Muneer-ur-Rehman, president of Science Society, said that about 150 students and young engineers participated in the symposium, presented their points of view and interacted with other participants of different universities, which made the symposium an important opportunity for exposure to the modern thinking and literature in the respective fields.

The outstanding teams were awarded shields and certificates. Meanwhile, another three-day Innovation Summit organised by the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET), GIK Institute students chapter, also concluded in the Institute.

Over 150 students from different universities participated in the event. They shared the innovations in different areas and also read their papers highlighting the role of innovation in industrialisation of the societies.
