Official calls for joint efforts to curb ice drug abuse

MARDAN: A senior police officer said on Wednesday all walks of life should make joint efforts to eliminate the ice (methamphetamine) drug abuse in the society, particularly by the students, who are at a greater risk.

Addressing a seminar in connection with a campaign against ice drug at the Government Postgraduate College Mardan, District Police Officer Muhammad Sajjad Khan said education created awareness and the use of ice drug must come to an end at educational institutions.

Students, Mardan Youth Parliament office-bearers and teachers of the institution were present on the occasion.

“Eliminating ice drug from society is one of the major targets of the Mardan Police.

During the last several months, we have even busted gangs that used to smuggle the drug both nationally and internationally,” he said.

The college principal Tariq Jan on the occasion hailed the police campaign at educational institutions against the drug and said it would help prevent the drug.

Meanwhile, a farewell dinner was arranged at the DPO House for the outgoing regional police officer Muhammad Ali Khan.

The newly appointed DIG Sher Akbar Khan, Mardan Commissioner Mutahir Zeb, PRC Commandant Brig Shahid Younas, Deputy Commissioner Abid Wazir, trade leaders, and journalists attended the ceremony.
