NOWSHERA: The United Nations High Commission for Refugees-the UN Refugee Agency- would start repatriation process of the Afghan refugees in August, a top official said on Tuesday.
Talking to reporters after visiting Jalozai Camp on Tuesday, High Commissioner António Guterres said that the Refugee Agency, Pakistan and Afghanistan would announce the repatriation schedule in August.
He said a comprehensive policy for Afghan traders had been devised. He said that the UNHCR could not bear expenses of the Afghan refugees and affectees of the military operations and would ask international community at the donor conference in Geneva to help Pakistan.
António Guterres said that he would appeal to the donors to help Pakistan as the country had assisted refugees despite financial constraints.“The Afghan government has been asked to provide opportunity to the Afghans living in other countries to play active role in the development and reconstruction of their country,” he added.
The agency had finalised all formalities with the Afghan government for repatriation of the refugees, he added.He said the UNHCR had appealed to Myanmar to either grant nationality to the Rohingya Muslims or provide them constitutional protection.He also appealed to the neighbouring countries to open their borders to the displaced Rohingyas who were living in seas.
