NOWSHERA: The newly appointed chairman of the Board of Governors (BoGs) of Qazi Medical Complex on Monday accused his predecessor of committing embezzlement and making illegal appointments in the hospital.
Talking to reporters, Malik Riaz Awan said that he would approach the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to launch investigations into the ‘corrupt practices’ of his predecessor Gulrez Hakim Khan.
It was learnt that Malik Riaz Awan arrived at the Qazi Medical Complex along with half a dozen armed men and broke open the locks of the clerical and administration offices to get hold of the official record.
Assistant Commissioner Talha Zubair and a large number of policemen were also present on the occasion. Malik Riaz Awan, who is a lawyer, claimed that previous BoG chairman Gulrez Hakim had appointed his blue-eyed persons in violation of the relevant rules and regulations. He said that he would hand over the official record to the NAB to probe the irregularities.
It may be mentioned that the KP secretary Health had removed Gulrez Hakim as chairman of the BoG. Later, four of the six members of the BoG had appointed Malik Riaz Awan as the chairman. Subsequently, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department had issued a notification of his appointment.
Meanwhile, the former BoG chairman Gulrez Hakim told reporters that he would move the court of law against his removal by the KP secretary Health.
He pointed out that the official in question was not authorised under the Medical Teaching Institutions Reforms Act 2015 to remove him. He said that the MTI had clearly mentioned the procedure for the appointment and removal of the BoG chairman.
Alleging that Malik Riaz Awan had taken the law into his hand by storming the hospital along with armed men, he asked the KP chief minister and the health minister to take notice of the incident.
Gulrez Hakim said that he had introduced several reforms in the hospital and had been punished despite his constructive work.
