Misappropriation of funds alleged

PESHAWAR: The Tribal Youth Development Society has accused Fata Development Authority (FDA) of misappropriation of funds meant for different road infrastructure schemes and other uplift projects in the tribal districts.

Speaking a news conference on Monday, the society’s president Asim Orakzai asked the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to conduct an inquiry into the alleged anomalies in the development funds.

Senior vice president of the society Zaheeruddin Babar, vice president Mohibullah Bajauri, General Secretary Khan Bahadur Wazir, Deputy General Secretary Asim Orakzai, Secretary Information, Haneef Wazir, Essa Khan Orakzai, Arif Afridi and Shamsher were present.

Asim Orakzai claimed he had proof about the misuse of development funds in tribal districts. He said the development schemes being undertaken by the FDA should be probed through NAB.

He demanded the government to conduct an audit of funds meant for the execution of development schemes in the merged districts. He also sought action against officials due to the lapse of development funds.

Asim Orakzai voiced concern over the delay in the repatriation of temporarily displaced persons belonging from Mamozai tribe of Orakzai and North Waziristan districts.

He asked the government to materialize its promises made with tribal people. He said that education and health facilities should be made available in tribal districts.

He said that tribal youth should be recruited to overcome staff deficiency in government departments.
