Recycling importance underlined to protect environment

PESHAWAR: A daylong seminar was held at the Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Peshawar on Monday to mark the World Recycling Day.

The seminar was arranged by the Environmental Society of the university with the aim of creating awareness amongst the students about the importance of waste management and recycling to protect the environment. Speaking on the occasion, chairman of the department, Dr Hizbullah Khan, underlined the importance of recycling.

The organiser of the society, Dr Asif Khan Khattak, Dr Shahla Nazneen and Dr Rashid Miandad also spoke on the occasion. The speakers said Sweden was recycling 99 percent of the waste. They said that recycled plastic pellets were used in the construction of roads in England. The speakers suggested that the government should focus attention on waste recycling, which would not only keep the environment clean but also earn handsome revenue for the national kitty.
