Khyber district to host grappling championship

BARA: All Khyber Amir Grappling Championship will be organised at the Baghdad Model School in Bara tehsil on March 31.

Speaking at a press conference at the Bara Press Club, Amirullah Afridi said all clubs in the Khyber district would take part in the championship.“At least 270 players will turn up at the competition,” he said and added that such events were needed as tribalpeople had gone through a turbulent situation during militancy. He said senior coaches from the Khyber would be part of the programme, which would be of high standard. Amirullah Afridi said there would be various categories in the competitions.

“We want to improve the social condition and take young generation away from abuses such as drugs and gambling by engaging them in the healthy activities,” he explained. Amirullah revealed that Sports Director Muhammad Nawaz, Pakistan Grappling President and Asia Grappling Joint Secretary Hafiz Shamsuddin would grace the occasion. He said several sportsmen had been recruited in various government departments and Frontier Corps, Navy, Air Force and Army.
