9 schools fined over fee refund issue

FAISALABAD: The Education Department imposed a total fine of Rs 1,080,000 on nine private schools that failed to implement the Supreme Court’s orders regarding adjustment/refund of fees.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Education Authority, Ali Ahmad Sian told reporters that the department constituted special teams to check the status of implementation of the SC’s orders. He said the teams found administrations of the schools situated at Chen-One Road, Canal Road Saeed Colony, Samundri Road, 294-RB Canal Road, East Canal Road, Batala Colony and other areas failed to adjust/refund the half of the fee charged during last summer vacations before February 12. Hence, the team imposed a fine of Rs 120,000 on the administration of each school under section 11 of the Punjab Private Educational Institutions (Promotion and Regulation) Ordinance 1984. The administrations of the institutions were directed to refund the fee immediately to the parents in accordance with the SC orders.

Four arrested: Police have arrested four people on charges of resorting to aerial firing in marriage functions. Sargodha road police arrested accused Hamid Raza and Tahir Hussain, who were firing in a marriage function. Millat Town police detained accused Muhammad Ajmal and Abid, who were firing in the air at a marriage function in Chak 119/JB Samana.

Enmity claims life: Three men allegedly shot dead a young man to seek revenge over a dispute in the area of Millat Town police. According to a police spokesman, Zargham, of chak 33-GB seduced and abducted Ghazala, w/o Nawaz Afzal, of mohallah Munir Park some time back. Later, on the intervention of locals the woman was brought back home. Reportedly, Zargham once again abducted her and started living with her. However, Nawaz Afzal filed a petition in a local court and litigation started between the two parties. Accused Zargham, Gulfam and Salman called Nawaz outside his house and shot him dead.
