Gang of robbers busted

MANSEHRA: The police busted a gang of inter-provincial robbers, an official said on Friday.

“The gangsters had blocked the traffic on Kaghan Road and snatched cash and valuables from the tourists, locals and foreigners in December, last year,” District Police Officer (DPO) Zaibullah Khan told a news conference here.

Flanked by ASP Arif Javed, Zaibullah Khan said that though police did its level best to arrest the six highwaymen, they had managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness.

“We continued our investigation along scientific lines and arrested four of the robbers from various parts of Hazara. Raids are being carried out to arrest the remaining ones,” he added.

The DPO said that Mohammad Jamil, Mohammad Faizan, Abdul Aziz and Mohammad Danish were arrested. Raids were being carried out for arrest of Mohammad Fareed.

“We have also recovered cash, mobile sets and documents and currency of a Malaysian family,” said the official.

He added that a gang had committed heists in Abbottabad and Attock, last week.

TEHSIL BUDGET: Mansehra Tehsil Council imposed Rs 1 per litre of levy on water filtration plants amid strong criticism by some of its members on Friday.

“The Local Government Act 2013 allows us to impose taxes. We will receive Rs 1 levy per litre water being sold commercially by filtration plants,” Raja Ayaz, a PML-N councillor told council in its session held with convener Mohsin Waqar in the chair.
