PESHAWAR: An emergency meeting of all the vice –chancellors (VCs) of Public Sector Universities of Khyber Pakh-tunkhwa was held here on Friday to discuss the proposed amendment in the Khyber- Pakhtunkhwa Universities Act 2012 and alleged interference in the affairs of universities.
The vice-chancellors showed serious concern over the suggested changes in the act at, what they called, the behest of some politically motivated quarters without consulting and taking the stakeholders into confidence. The vice-chancellors opined that the government is misguided by some vested interests, thus undermining the development of higher education in the province.
They also showed their concern over the moves of the government to initiate inquiries against various universities on what they referred to as hearsay and mere allegations without any evidence.
