Businessmen demand relief package for revival of KP economy

PESHAWAR: Traders and business community of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Independence Day asked the federal government to announce a relief package for the province to revive its economy shattered by decades of militancy and terrorism.

Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) President Muhammad Afzal said economic self-reliance was the real independence for the nation.

He was speaking after the cake-cutting ceremony in connection with the 70th Independence Day celebrations.

The SCCI chief said he had apprised the federal government of the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the wake of the incidents of terror and militancy.

“These incidents shattered economy of the province which required a special package for revival,” he said and added that the government should take up steps to promote industrialisation in the province.

SCCI senior vice president Muhammad Iqbal, vice president Abidullah Khan Yousafzai and member of the executive committee of the chamber were also present in the cake-cutting ceremony held at the Chamber House.
