116 arrested over graft during 2016: official

PESHAWAR: The Anti-Corruption Establishment Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday arrested 116 officers and junior employees of various government departments during the current year on complaints of corruption, an official said on Tuesday.

Talking to reporters, Anti-Corruption Establishment Director Zaibullah Khan said the arrested people included officials of various government departments. He added that 11 officials were caught red-handed receiving bribe.

Zaibullah Khan added that investigation into 356 cases had been completed. He said that some 68 cases were registered against the officials, adding, 208 officials were nominated in the cases and 116 people were arrested.

The official said that investigation against the rest of the nominated officials was going on. He maintained that 555 new inquiries had been started against government officials during the current year. Action against the corrupt elements in government departments would continue to readdress the grievances of the complainants, he went on to add.
