Protest staged against FCR in Bajaur

KHAR: The members of the ‘Sada buland karo’ and students leader in Bajaur Agency on Thursday took out a protest rally to press the government to abolish the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas. Led by the ‘Sada buland karo’ or raise voice chief Asadullah Khan, the protesters were carrying banners and placards. They chanted slogans against the draconian law. They marched through various areas and gathered at main chowk in Khar bazaar. Speaking on the occasion, Asadullah Khan said that FCR was a black law and source of all the evils.
Two women die of suffocation in Kurram

PARACHINAR: Two women died while as many including an infant fell unconscious due to gas leakage in a house in College Colony in Kurram Agency, official sources said. They said that the wife and a sister of one Mumtaz Hussain died of suffocation and his infant boy child and another sister fell unconscious due to gas accumulation in the room. They said that the affected child and woman were shifted to a hospital in Parachinar, the administrative headquarters of Kurram Agency, where their condition was stated to be critical. They said that the wife of Mumtaz Hussain had given birth to the child some 10 days ago and his sisters had come to his house to participate in festivity.
WSSP to observe 2017 as year of cleanliness

PESHAWAR: The Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) in collaboration with town municipal administrations and other municipal bodies has decided to observe 2017 as the year of cleanliness. A week-long awareness campaign would be launched under the title of “Guluna Pekhawar.” The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired by Minister for Local Government and Rural Development Inayatullah Khan. The meeting was also attended by General Manager Water and Sanitation Services Company Ali Khan, General Manager Planning Ashraf Qadar Khattak, General Manager Projects Attaur Rahman, Director General of Peshawar Development Authority Salim Hasan Wattoo and others.
Woman commits suicide in Nowshera

NOWSHERA: A woman allegedly committed suicide at Sheikh Shehbaz Baba Koroona in Kheshgi Payan on Thursday, official sources said.Sajid reported to Nowshera Kalan Police Station that he along with his wife Shaheen Begum was asleep in his room when he heard a gunshot. “When I got up, my wife had shot herself dead,” he added. The body was shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital in Nowshera for autopsy. The police said medico-legal would make it clear if it was a suicide or murder case.
Na’at, speech contests held
MARDAN: Women University held a Naat Khawani, speech and Qirat contests at the university campus in connection of the holy month of Rabiul Awwal. A large number of students of the university participated in the contest. Dr Ghazala Yasmeen, vice-chancellor of the university, was the chief guest on the occasion. The vice-chancellor and other speakers on the occasion highlighted the importance of Rabiul Awwal.

NOWSHERA: The police registered first information reports (FIRs) against five persons for inadequate security arrangements at schools and a government office. The police registered cases against Fazal Malik, principal of Iqra Public School in Shirin Koto and Muhammad Anwar, principal, Government Community School in Shirin Koto for not making proper security arrangements for the schools.
