Armed clash in Bannu leaves one dead

NOWSHERA: Unidentified gunmen on Saturday shot dead a woman councillor in Jehangira area here, police sources said.

Brother of the slain female councillor Noor Muhammad told the police that unidentified gunmen broke into their house in Kharoi village early in the day. He said the accused opened indiscriminate fire, killing his sister and a village councillor Zainab Bibi on the spot.

He added that the accused managed to escape after committing the crime. He added that they had no enmity. The police lodged the case and started an investigation.

Our correspondent in Bannu adds: One person was killed and two others sustained injuries when two armed groups traded fire in the limits of Ghoriwala Police Station on Friday, official sources said.

The sources said that rival groups opened fire at each other soon the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) union election in Hujram Khel area of the district.

As a result, three persons including the newly elected divisional Chairman of Pesco union Farman Ali Shah, his brother Farhan Ali Shah, and one Asim from the other side sustained injuries.

The injured were taken to District Headquarters Hospital in Bannu where Asim succumbed to his injuries. The sources said that Farman Ali Shah had defeated Malik Ghulam Ali in the union election.
