Piers Morgan hails King Charles for 'touching tribute' to cousin King Harald

Norway’s King Harald took his last breath at the age of 89 as confirmed by the royal palace.

"King Harald passed away peacefully at Oslo University Hospital on Friday 28 August, 0635 (local time, 0435 GMT)," the royal palace said on its website.

The announcement of Norway’s king drew emotional responses from all over the world. King Charles also shared a heartfelt tribute to King Harald.

The Britain royal palace issued a statement, “It is with the most profound sadness that my wife and I have learned of the death of my dear cousin, King Harald V of Norway.”

“For thirty-five years, King Harald served his people with unwavering dedication, guiding Norway through times of great change with warmth and humility.”

“The United Kingdom and Norway share particularly close historical and family ties, with Britain one of the first countries to recognise Norwegian independence and establish diplomatic relations in 1905. These special bonds were even further strengthened during the dreadful trials of the Second World War and helped to bind our two countries together.”

“The Queen and I extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to Queen Sonja and all her family, as Britain shares in Norway’s grief at this time of such heartbreaking loss.”

Piers Morgan hailed King Charles for paying a heart touching tribute to cousin King Harald V.

Talking to X, Morgan wrote, “Touching tribute by King Charles to his cousin, King Harald of Norway, Europe’s oldest monarch and a hugely popular figure with Norwegians during his 35yrs on the throne. RIP.”

After the death of Harald, Crown Prince Haakon became King of Norway and he is widely expected to reign as King Haakon VIII.
