GTA 6: Rockstar reveals Lucia’s bigger role in 26-minute footage
Jason and Lucia take center stage in Rockstar's longest look yet at Vice City
Rockstar Games finally revealed its plans, and it did so on Netflix. The 26-minute "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look", captured entirely on a base PlayStation 5, aired exclusively on the streaming service before Rockstar posted it to its YouTube channel and website six hours later, the longest look at the game the studio has offered since its first trailer.
The clearest signal from the footage is how much space Lucia Caminos now occupies. Players can switch freely between her and Jason Duval, even when a mission physically separates them across the map, and several sequences lean on their relationship directly rather than treating her as backup.
One mission opens with Jason helping her pick an outfit before the two head out together, a small domestic beat sitting right next to full shootouts and a bank job later in the same video.
It seems like Rockstar is putting in place a reward system that is similar to the honour system found in Red Dead Redemption 2.
The angel symbol appears on the screen after Jason pets the dog, implying that some of the things players do might get them moral credits.
Rockstar has not revealed the mechanics of this system; therefore, it is still unclear how far the system extends or whether there is a corresponding punishment icon.
A particular scene includes Lucia speeding with a man holding on to the back of a stolen car, with live comments running at the bottom of the screen.
It may seem like a minor point, but it is clear evidence that Rockstar has finally decided to incorporate current social media trends directly into Vice City and not indirectly via in-game media, as was the case with previous instalments.
The hacking group known as 'CyberLeek' had been publishing unauthorised gameplay clips for the past two weeks, which were supposedly from a playable version, compelling Rockstar to finally address the issue publicly, calling the whole thing a 'heartbreak'.
Rockstar had even served subpoenas a week before this announcement to gain access to information about the hackers.
