Jennifer Garner reveals her major financial fears she faced after Ben Affleck split

Jennifer Garner is opening up about how her life took a frightening turn after she parted ways from ex-husband Ben Affleck while she was also on a career break to raise her kids.

The 13 Going on 30 star made a recent appearance on Tuesday’s episode of the Aspire podcast with Emma Grede, and looked back at her life after she finalized her divorce from Affleck with whom she shares three kids; Violet, 20, Seraphina, 17, and Samuel, 13.

"I was suddenly like, ‘Wait a minute. I have to take care of myself. I have to take care of these kids. I didn’t get some huge payout," Garner recalled.

“I panicked when I was first out of my marriage and realized I had taken such a step back in my work.”

She also noted that she was worried about restarting her career in Hollywood as the industry is known for ageism.

“And suddenly I realized, like, I don’t know how long I’ll be able to work. This isn’t a career that’s like, ‘Hey, you’re 60, you’re 55, you’re 43? Come on, let’s pay you more than you’ve ever made.'”

The mom of three was also concerned about managing work and home at the same time as a single mom, "leave [her] kids for six months" won't be possible."

With all these worries, maintaining the lifestyle she had while living with Affleck seemed a bit difficult to her.

Garner added, “It’s not like you can just un-famous yourself. Life is expensive, and you still have to kind of figure out how you’re gonna live. And just because you’re well-known by people does not mean that there is some great living being provided for you."

The Electra star also confessed that before all this she was not “someone who had never given a lot of thought to money.”

But after the divorce, “it became very serious to [her] really quickly,” and eventually she had to become an “earner.”

Following her divorce in 2015, Garner got multiple movie roles including Miracles from Heaven (2016) and Love, Simon (2018).

Her latest films were Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) and The Five-Star Weekend (2026).

She also dipped her toes into entrepreneurship, started working in organic kids’ and baby food company Once Upon a Farm and became a successful businesswoman.

Garner, as per Forbes, last year made $1 million annually.
