Jessica Chastain finds her 'Heartland' role 'irresistible'

Jessica Chastain’s new Netflix character revealed.

Netflix’s upcoming mystery thriller film, Heartland, is set to premiere on 13 November 2026.

It is pertinent to mention here that the movie features a star-studded cast including Jessica Chastain, Carter Faith, Garrett Hedlund, Jennifer Nettles, and many others.

Jessica is playing the character of Misty Jones, who is an ex-country music star, and now she is in search of her niece, according to People Magazine.

As per the synopsis of the movie, “comes out of seclusion to investigate the disappearance of her missing niece, a rising country musician, and must grapple with her own past and Nashville’s seedy underbelly.”

It further reads, “Her search uncovers a murky side of Nashville where no one, including Misty, is who they seem.”

Speaking to the outlet, the actress revealed how her previous role as country music legend Tammy Wynette, which she played in the 2022 series George and Tammy, helped her prepare for the role of Misty.

“Coming to Misty with Tammy somewhere in my DNA was enormously helpful,” the Oscar-winning actress said.

“I could draw from that understanding of what superstardom does to a person, but also the innocence that can somehow survive alongside it. Misty has lived this enormous public life, and I wanted you to feel that history without her ever having to explain it. Thankfully, Tammy had already sent me to country-music graduate school,” she added.

Moreover, the acting newbie, Carter Faith, who made her debut in Heartland, opened up about her experience with the leading lady, saying, “I remember her telling me that acting was all about timing.”

Adding, “If you think of it as a real conversation, listening to the person and responding instead of just memorizing lines, it becomes more human.”

The director and writer of the new thriller, Shana Feste, praised Jessica’s performance and bold portrayal of Misty, “Jessica constantly surprised me. Once she became Misty, she knew her better than I did.”

“All the ways we’re conditioned as women — to be polite, to put ourselves second, to worry about being liked — just disappeared. She had no guilt about any of it. There was something incredibly freeing about watching her take on a character who didn’t play by the rules,” the filmmaker further added.

Now, looking back at what drew her towards the film and the filmmaker Shana made her want to take the experience even further, the actress behind Misty said, “Every time I thought I understood what kind of movie I was reading, it changed lanes, which I loved.”

“Misty was irresistible to me because she’s completely unapologetic. She’s reckless, funny, deeply vulnerable and really wounded. She disappeared from this world rather than continuing to chase success, which I found fascinating. There’s something almost dangerous about her because you never quite know what she’s going to do next. Then I met Shana, loved her immediately, and thought, ‘Well, now I really want to see what happens if we make this thing together,” the 46-year-old actress further added.
