Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are said to be facing unexpected backlash ahead of their Australia trip.
With the couple's visit labelled as "faux royal" tour, insiders revealed that it is already descending into chaos.
Set for next month, Harry and Meghan's trip blends commercial and personal engagements. It is said to be a sharp contrast to their 2018 tour as senior royals.
While Meghan is set to host a three-day wellness event, Her Best Life Retreat, Harry is slated to speak at a psychosocial safety conference in Melbourne.
However, a petition amassing over 32000 signatures urges the Australian government to not fund security or logistical support.
An insider told Radar Online, "There is a growing perception that this is a 'faux royal' tour – it carries the appearance of a traditional visit, but without the official role to justify it. That is also part of the reason it is being described as a total shambles before it has even begun."
"The combination of commercial events, high ticket prices, and expectations around security has made this feel out of step with public sentiment, particularly given the current economic climate," another added.
Furthermore, sources also claim that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are blending "celebrity-style engagements with elements that resemble royal tours, but without the structure or accountability that comes with official duties."
"That hybrid model is proving controversial, particularly when public resources are perceived to be involved," they added.
Another source adds, "There is a sense that expectations have not been aligned with reality. For some, it feels like an attempt to recreate the visibility of their royal roles, but in a commercial context, and that is where the tension lies."
It is pertinent to mention that despite the backlash, ticket demand for Meghan Markle's retreat has remained strong and Prince Harry's Melbourne appearance is also expected to draw attention from workplace safety and mental health professionals.
