King Charles III arrived in Birmingham, where Prince Harry's Invictus Games will be held in 2027, to officially open the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital.
During his visit, the 76-year-old met volunteers and patients. He appeared in high spirits as he returned to work after relaxing summer holiday with family in Balmoral.
The royal family's official Instagram account shared update on the King's visit with his photos.
The Palace wrote: "In Birmingham, The King has visited the Oratory of St Philip Neri, which opened in 1909 in memory of St. John Henry Newman."
Royal commentator Rebecca English also wrote on X: "The King is officially opening the new Midland Metropolitan University Hospital in Birmingham and meeting medical professionals, volunteers and patients in its 4,000 square metre enclosed 'Winter Garden'"
The monarch also joined Daniel Joyce, Newman Archivist and Librarian, at the Birmingham Oratory. He was seen consulting various books and historical items.
On arrival, Charles was received by the Archbishop of Birmingham and the Provost of the Birmingham Oratory, Father Ignatius Harrison, who guided him through the church and gave an explanation of its history.
William and Harry's father was also seen joking and laughing with a group of Fathers.
The 76-year-old, dressed in a grey suit and a red patterned tie, was all smiles and in sound health as he animatedly chatted to the religious group.
