Kristin Chenoweth shares first reaction to Ariana Grande’s ‘Wicked’ casting

Kristin Chenoweth recalled the time when Ariana Grande shared the news of starring as Glinda in the Wicked film.

Chenoweth, who originated the role on Broadway when the show debuted in 2003, has known the Dangerous Woman singer since she was 10 years old, hence she was left delighted after learning Grande’s new role.

"I won’t reveal too much, but we were so emotional," Chenoweth recalled during the discussion of her recent partnership with Adobe Acrobat Studio in an interview with Parade.

The Descendants star went on to share the details of the moment when Grande told her.

"We both talk like we're dolphins, like we’ve lost our minds," she remembered.

Chenoweth continued, "I have other people I know who auditioned that I love very much, but when it’s her I went through, 'I got the audition,' 'I got the callback,' 'I'm going back again.'When it was the 'yes,' we lost our minds, and that was during COVID."

"I was just so happy, and I had to keep it a secret. I didn’t tell a soul, not a soul," added the RV actress.

The 57-year-old artist went on to share her thoughts on the upcoming sequel, Wicked: For Good, saying that "Jon Chu was the right director for this."

With the second instalment releasing soon on November 21, Chenoweth is also working on her upcoming Broadway musical The Queen of Versailles, which is set to begin performances on October 8 at the St. James Theatre.
