Doctor Odyssey cancelled by ABC

ABC has officially canceled Doctor Odyssey after just one season. The Ryan Murphy-created medical drama, which starred Joshua Jackson as Dr. Max Bankman aboard a luxury cruise ship, will not return for another year.

The show had been the last of ABC’s scripted series without a renewal or cancellation decision since April. Variety confirmed the decision, noting the cast's contracts are set to expire with no sign of renewal.

Alongside Jackson, the series featured Phillipa Soo, Sean Teale, and Don Johnson, with a recurring lineup that included Jacqueline Toboni, Marcus Emanuel Mitchell, Rick Cosnett, and Laura Harrier.

Guest stars such as Rachel Dratch, Shania Twain, Angela Bassett, and Kelsea Ballerini also made appearances.

Doctor Odysseyfollowed Dr. Bankman and his medical team tackling high-stakes emergencies far from shore aboard the fictional Odyssey cruise ship. Despite its ambitious concept and high-profile cast, the show didn’t find a strong enough foothold in ABC’s lineup to justify a second season.

The series was produced by 20th Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television.

Murphy co-wrote the show with Jon Robin Baitz and Joe Baken, all of whom served as executive producers. Additional producers included Jackson, Johnson, Paris Barclay, Eric Paquette, Alexis Martin Woodall, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, and Nissa Diederich.

ABC has not issued an official statement, but the show’s absence from the network’s upcoming schedule and the end of its cast contracts indicate that the decision has been finalized.

For fans of the show, it’s a quiet goodbye to a unique medical drama set on open waters.
