Julia Fox has recently made shocking revelation about Uncut Gems casting preference.
The Italian actress explained how she had to convince studios to cast her instead of Scarlett Johansson for Uncut Gems during an appearance on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast.
Julia, who played Adam Sandler’s mistress in Josh and Benny Safdie’s 2019 hit, opened up about the studio pressure to cast Scarlett in the role.
“People knew who I was. I was like a hood celebrity, and these directors heard about me and wanted to meet me,” said the 35-year-old.
The PVT Chat star recalled studios “were writing a part for this young girl who has kind of a sugar daddy situation… And that movie would go on to become Uncut Gems.”
“I auditioned like everyone else. Unfortunately, even though they had written it for me, the studios were like, ‘We don’t know her.’ They wanted Scarlett and all these other beautiful women, and established actresses,” mentioned Julia.
The Trainer actress further said that she did “a screen test” with Adam, and fortunately it went really well.
“They were able to convince the studios to let me do it,” added Julia.
Interestingly, the model turned actress admitted that she “didn’t even know” if she could even act at the time.
However, Julia always had a “hunch” and after Uncut Gems, she went on to collaborate with Steven Soderbergh for Presence and No Sudden Move.
The actress also dipped her hand in writing as she made the debut with Lipstick Palm.
For the unversed, Uncut Gems won Best Director at the New York Film Critics Circle and Best Screenplay at the National Board of Review.
