PESHAWAR: Residents of Peshawar Cantonment - once considered the city’s most load-shedding-free area - have been enduring daily power outages lasting five to six hours for the fourth consecutive day, raising concerns about the worsening electricity situation even in high-priority localities.

Locals expressed frustration over the prolonged and unpredictable outages, noting that if such severe load-shedding is occurring in Cantt, conditions in other parts of the city are likely far worse.

“If this is the condition in Cantt, what hope do people in other areas have?” said Naeem Khan, a resident.Residents also noted that electricity often disappears the moment clouds gather.

“When the sky turns cloudy, the power goes out. If it rains or the wind picks up, you can’t expect electricity to return for hours,” another resident complained. The outages have severely disrupted daily life, especially as temperatures continue to rise.

Several households with elderly or sick family members reported facing extreme difficulty, struggling without fans or cooling systems during peak heat hours.“In this hot weather, it becomes unbearable, especially when you have unwell people at home,” a local added.

Zeeshan Khan, Sub-Divisional Officer of Peshawar Cantt, attributed the extended outages to major damage to the area’s power cables. He assured that repair work was underway and that efforts were being made to restore an uninterrupted power supply as soon as possible.
