MANSEHRA: Residents of various localities blocked the Karakoram Highway (KKH) for over two hours on Wednesday, demanding an end to prolonged and unscheduled loadshedding in the city and its suburbs.
“Peshawar Electric Supply Company suspends electricity supply over 10 hours a day amid a scorching heatwave, and women, children, and elderly people are the worst affected,” said Mohammad Sohail, one of the protesters, while addressing the crowd.
Residents of Dhodial and adjoining areas took to the streets and blocked the Karakoram Highway to all types of traffic for over two hours. They raised slogans against the government and Pesco to demand an immediate end to the power outages.
“We are without potable water due to the loadshedding, electric motors installed at hand pumps, bores, and wells,” said another local, Mohammad Hamad.
He added that people had also met with senior officials of Pesco and the deputy commissioner, seeking an end to the prolonged outages during the extreme heat, but to no avail.
