PESHAWAR: An officer of the Excise and Taxation Department has refused to perform field duty due to alleged unprecedented corruption and unlawful practices in the department.

This is something unprecedented as an officer after refusing to work in a corrupt system has posted it on his social media. “Due to rampant corruption, malfeasance and illegal appointments within the department, I have resigned from my post. On my request, I have been transferred back to the Directorate General Excise Department,” stated Inspector Azlan Aslam.

The officer, a PhD degree holder, said that he has conveyed to the bosses that he cannot work in a system in which the safety and interests of the people are at risk and their blood is being sold daily. Many on social media have appreciated the officer for his bold decision and said the government and the senior officials must stand by him.

There were innumerable allegations against the Excise Department for involvement of its officers and junior staff in corruption, corrupt practices and bothering the general public on road and through other tactics. Many of the officers enjoy a luxurious lifestyle beyond their source of income while a large number of others are misusing official vehicles.
