Ryan Reynolds recently revealed that Deadpool & Wolverine was originally expected to have a much darker ending, with Wade Wilson’s death considered for the film’s conclusion.
The 48-year-old actor, who has garnered recognition for his portrayal of Deadpool in the hit action-comedy franchise, opened up about the film’s potential ending.
In an exclusive conversation with The Box Office podcast, Reynolds, 48, said, “There’s always the thought of killing Deadpool in the last one. Again, it’s like listening to the movie. Me, [editors] Shane Reid, Dean Zimmerman, and [director] Shawn Levy must have reworked that third act for 45 days straight.”
However, the conversation around Deadpool’s death reportedly faded once the fight scene choreographed to Madonna’s Like a Prayer came into play.
Reflecting on the music choice, the 2024 film producer added, “Finally figuring it out – I am such a needle-drop person, but I’m really working hard to embrace score. It was Rob Simonsen who really helped us get there by blending score, needle drop, and all these things that gave you that feeling we were working for. Studios are like, of course, it’d be fun to play around with this guy in the future, because he’s a cheat code.”
Later in the interview, the Canadian-American actor described the project as “emotionally resonant”.
Meanwhile, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the Free Guy star is now preparing for another Marvel film, with Deadpool set to appear in a supporting role alongside three or four X-Men characters.
For the unversed, the Shawn Levy’s directorial was widely acclaimed following its release on July 25, 2024.
