PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday issued a written verdict on the petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Central Secretary for Information, Sheikh Waqas Akram, seeking details of cases registered against him.

The court granted the petitioner 28 days of protective bail and disposed of the writ petition, stating that the petitioner may appear before the relevant courts during this period to seek legal relief.

The petition was heard by a two-member bench comprising Justice Waqar Ahmed and Justice Dr. Khurshid Iqbal. The petitioner’s legal counsel argued that after the protest on November 24, last year, the government registered multiple cases against PTI leaders, but the petitioner had not been informed about the details of any cases filed against him.

The written order stated that Sheikh Waqas had been granted 28 days of protective bail. He should appear before the concerned courts and seek appropriate legal relief during this time.

According to the petitioner’s lawyer, the federal and Punjab governments had registered cases against Sheikh Waqas, but no details had been shared with him.The court emphasized that it is a fundamental right of every citizen to be informed about any first information reports registered against them.

The petitioner’s lawyer maintained that his client wished to appear before the courts and requested the court to direct the federal government and other concerned parties to provide case details and to ensure that Sheikh Waqas was not arrested in these cases during the 28 days.
