Man sentenced to death for kidnapping, murdering minor

PESHAWAR: A Child Protection Court here on Friday sentenced a man to death for the kidnapping and murder of a minor boy.

The verdict was announced by Judge Muhammad Hanif, who also handed the convict a total of 21 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs1 million.

According to the prosecution, the accused, Waqas, had kidnapped and murdered a minor boy in the jurisdiction of Phandu Police Station.

The case was registered on the complaint of the victim’s mother, after which police launched an investigation and arrested the suspect.

Following his arrest, police charged Waqas under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 364-A (kidnapping for murder), and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).

Upon completion of the investigation, the charge sheet was submitted to the court and the trial commenced.

Based on the testimony of witnesses and the evidence presented, the court found Waqas guilty and sentenced him to death under Section 302 of the PPC.

In addition, he was sentenced to 14 years in prison under Section 364-A, and 7 years of rigorous imprisonment under Section 201. The court also ordered him to pay Rs1 million in compensation to the victim’s family. In case of non-payment, the convict will have to serve an additional six months in prison.
