PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakh-tunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has appointed Professor Dr Naushad Khan as the pro-vice chancellor of the Islamia College University for a period of two years.
The post of pro-vice chancellor has been created in the amended Khyber Pakhtunkhwa University Act 2012. The act says: “A pro-vice chancellor shall be appointed by the chancellor from amongst the three senior-most deans or teachers as the case may be for a period of two years who shall be the acting or officiating vice-chancellor when the post of regular vice-chancellor is vacant due to completion of term, insanity or death or any other cause to perform the function of vice chancellor.”
Dr Naushad Khan would take charge as acting vice-chancellor of the university on Mondayon the retirement of Ajmal Khan, who had resumed charge as vice-chancellor after his release from the custody of his kidnappers who happened to be Pakistani Taliban. Dr Naushad Khan would serve as acting head of the university till the arrival of the new full-time vice-chancellor for which the process has already been completed and a formal appointment is expected soon.
Dr Naushad Khan is a senior academician who joined the university as lecturer in 1987. He did his PhD from Area Study Centre, University of Peshawar, in 1995.He remained the chairman of the Pakistan Study Department.
He did his post doctorate with distinction from Royal United Services Institute, White Hall in London in the year 2000. He was appointed as Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Arts and Languages of Islamia College University and served from 2010-13.He was again appointed dean of this faculty in 2015.
