SHANGLA: A reconciliation attempt between the police and lawyers ended in failure in Shangla, leading to large-scale protests in Alpuri, the headquarters of the district. The lawyers staged demonstrations at Alpuri’s main square and in front of the district police officer (DPO) office, chanting slogans against the police and administration.
The dispute began last week when an altercation broke out between duty traffic police and lawyers in Alpuri. The argument escalated into a physical brawl, with both sides exchanging kicks, punches, and slaps in the middle of the street. Initially, senior lawyers and local police resolved the matter amicably, but tensions reignited when a video of the incident went viral on social media. Following this, Shangla police registered an FIR against the lawyers.
Expressing concerns over the FIR, the lawyers announced a court boycott and formed a committee to raise the issue with higher authorities. On Monday, the Shangla Bar Association called for protests and a sit-in. Local representatives of the Tehsil Council attempted to mediate a reconciliation between the two parties, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
