GHALLANAI: A jirga of the elders of Baizai tribe in Mohmand Agency on Sunday pledged support to the political administration and vowed not to let anti-social elements enter their respective areas.
They were speaking at a jirga, which was also attended by Assistant Political Agent of Baizai subdivision Pir Abdullah Shah. The meeting was convened in the aftermath of a blast in Lakhkar village a day earlier. Two children were injured in the blast.
Abdullah Shah said the blast was caused by an anti-personnel mine. He said the preliminary reports suggested that the incident was a result of personal enmity. He said investigation into the incident was underway to ascertain facts and expose the elements behind the attack. He urged the tribespeople to inform the administration about their differences, disputes and complaints so the administration could resolve them.
The official said under the collective responsibility clause of the Frontier Crimes Regulation it was the responsibility of the tribesmen to keep a check on anti-social elements in their respective areas.He asked the tribesmen to shoulder their responsibility and keep an eye on the anti-social elements and miscreants.
Malik Sultan Khan of Mazari Cheena, Lal Muhammad, Malik Mirak Khan and others said that members of the peace committees would not allow the anti-social elements to disturb peace. They said that action would be taken against those sheltering anti-social elements. They said the facilitators and abettors of militants would be banished from the area.
The elders complained that the security forces demolish houses and confiscate lands if a blast or an act of sabotage occurred. They said that most of the incidents were the result of personal enmities and disputes between various tribes and had no connection with terrorism.
