JHANG: People have shown concern over sewerage and cleanliness issues in various city areas. The people alleged that majority of available municipality funds were being used to purchase fuel for vehicles being used by officers rather than addressing the cleanliness and sewerage problems. The citizens and businessmen said that they consistently demanded cleanliness of streets and sewer lines from the authorities concerned but to no avail.
They demanded the authorities take action against the Municipal Committee (MC) administrators who had allegedly left the public at the mercy of third-party services for the cleanliness of residential areas.
Sources revealed that various development projects in the city were being executed without proper verification and coordination between the departments concerned leading to duplication of projects and inefficient use of resources.
Furthermore, the sources added, during the construction and repair of streets in different areas, the level of the streets was raised on a pick-and-choose basis, exacerbating the sewerage problems in the city. Sources also claimed that municipal public funds were being utilised for the construction of parking sheds for MC vehicles while the vehicles and machinery could be seen at the DHQ Hospital for the construction of parking lot of the hospital instead of cleanliness.
The MC administration responding to the citizens grievances about boiling sewerage lines and choked drains claimed that overall sewerage problems would be resolved as a mega project of upgrading the sewage system of the city was near its completion.
The MC senior sanitary inspector said that the loaders and other machinery were utilised for the construction/establishment of the parking lot of the DHQ Hospital on the directions of the Chief Officer of the MC.
