PESHAWAR: District and Sessions Judge of Peshawar, Inamullah Wazir, on Friday ordered the immediate release of several prisoners serving sentences for minor offenses so that they could spend Ramazan with their families.
He issued the order as he paid a special visit on Friday to Peshawar Central Jail on the directive of Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court Justice Syed Muhammad Atiq Shah, ahead of Ramazan.
Senior Civil Judge Imranullah and Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Waqar Khan accompanied him.During the visit, the judge ordered the immediate release of several prisoners serving sentences for minor offenses so that they could spend Ramazan with their families.
He inspected different barracks, visited the prison kitchen, and examined the quality of food provided to inmates.Expressing concerns over hygiene conditions, he issued special instructions to ensure timely and clean meals for all prisoners, particularly for Sehar and Iftar.
During his visit to the jail hospital, the sessions judge inquired about the well-being of inmates, who expressed satisfaction with the medical facilities.The jail superintendent informed him that a rehabilitation centre for drug addicts had been completed and would be inaugurated soon.
The judge visited various prison workshops, where he was briefed on high-quality handmade products crafted by inmates.The superintendent announced that an outlet outside the jail would soon be opened for the sale of these products.
