PESHAWAR: Authorities have launched a crackdown on kite flying, pigeon flying and aerial firing near the Bacha Khan International Airport and Risalpur Air Base, citing serious risks to aircraft safety.
The Pakistan Air Force has provided a list of offenders to SSP operations for immediate arrests and strict penalties. Section 144 has been imposed, and a ban on kite production and sales is being enforced across the provincial capital.
Commissioner, Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mahsud, accompanied by Base Commander Peshawar Yasir Khan, SSP, Operations Peshawar, Masood Bangash, Assistant Commissioner Town Haroon Saleem, General Manager WSSP Ejaz Ahmad, and municipal officials, inspected areas around the airport. Officials informed the commissioner that aerial firing and kite flying posed serious threats to aircraft during takeoff and landing. The SSP operations received a list of those involved, with orders for immediate action. To prevent bird activity around the airport, the general manager WSSP has been directed to deploy additional personnel and increase cleaning operations.
Meanwhile, all assistant commissioners and local SHOs have been summoned for a coordination meeting to reinforce the crackdown on aerial firing and enforce the ban effectively. Similar measures have been ordered for Risalpur Air Base, with Nowshera’s administration, police, and municipal authorities instructed to implement strict action. Additionally, directives have been issued for the immediate drainage of rainwater from a vacant government plot near the airport to eliminate bird hazards.
