PESHAWAR: The Excise Police have busted a gang involved in the illegal trade of human organs, arresting its key members, officials said on Saturday.

An Excise Police official said three suspects have been taken into custody and were currently under interrogation. The main accused, identified as Shahzad Ali from Multan, had allegedly brought two individuals — Mohsin and Rashid — to Peshawar for medical tests before their kidneys were to be removed.

Shockingly, he said, the victims had been promised a mere Rs 280,000 each in exchange for their kidneys. Authorities revealed that the gang primarily targeted impoverished individuals and drug addicts, selling their organs to patients for exorbitant amounts.
