MARDAN: Prominent religious scholar, poet and educationist Israr Da Toru passed away on Tuesday after a prolonged illness.He was laid to rest in his ancestral graveyard in Toru, Mardan.
His funeral was attended by former chief minister Ameer Haider Hoti, former AWKU vice-chancellor Dr Ihsan Ali Khan, Mardan Mayor Himayatullah Mayar, as well as ANP district office-bearers, political workers, poets, writers, and journalists. Among those present were renowned poets Dr Humayun Huma, Noor-ul-Bashar Naveed and Dr Zubair Hasrat.
Born on September 15, 1939, in Toru village near Mardan, Israr Da Toru belonged to a family with a strong educational and religious background. His father, Maulana Inayatullah, was a well-known religious scholar and a member of the Khudai Khidmatgar movement led by Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, popularly known as Bacha Khan.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Israr Da Toru also became affiliated with the movement.Israr DaToru earned a master’s degree in Urdu language and education. A retired principal, he was known for his exceptional teaching style and played a significant role in shaping the academic careers of many students in Mardan. His contributions combined Pakhtun nationalist values with Islamic teachings.
As a writer, he authored several books, with his first publication, Imam-e-Azam, released in1965. He also conducted extensive studies on the Quran, publishing a book analyzing the total number of Ayahs in the holy book.Israr Da Toru had been suffering from heart disease for a long time. His Qul will be held on Thursday at Toru.
