PESHAWAR: The district administration has assured the City University of Science and Information Technology (CUSIT) Peshawar full support in implementing a project aimed at community resilience building for countering violent extremism in society.
The assurance was received as the CUSIT team held a policy coordination meeting with Assistant Commissioner, Saddar, Izza Arshad, to discuss the implementation of the “Community Resilience Building for Countering Violent Extremism” Project, said a communication.
The initiative, funded by the European Union in collaboration with the National Counter Terrorism Authority and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, is led by Dr Mohammad Haroon Khan, Director, ORIC- Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization and Project Lead at the CUSIT.
The meeting at the Assistant Commissioner’s Office focused on strengthening community resilience against violent extremism through dialogue, collaboration, and community-driven initiatives.
Dr Mohammad Haroon Khan briefed the official on the project’s objectives. He emphasized the project’s role in empowering local communities, promoting peace through sports events, organizing educational seminars, and supporting community initiatives.
The importance of library development in nearby communities as a means to counter extremist narratives through education and knowledge-sharing was highlighted. The assistant commissioner promised her full administrative support, ensuring the project’s smooth implementation in Peshawar.
