MANSEHRA: The Upper Kohistan district administration on Thursday launched a tree plantation drive during which thousands of saplings would be planted across the district.
“The recent flash floods have eroded the mountainous areas of the district and to mitigate this impact, we are initiating a large-scale tree plantation campaign,” Deputy Commissioner Tariq Ali Khan said at the launching ceremony in Dasu, the headquarters of upper Kohistan.The DC formally inaugurated the drive by planting a sapling in the garden of his secretariat.
“This ongoing campaign will extend across the district, with thousands of saplings to be planted. Our goal is to create a hazard-free environment for both the present and future generations by growing more and more trees,” Khan said.
On this occasion, he also distributed saplings free of cost to residents and peasants.“We will continue to distribute thousands of saplings among residents and farmers,” he added.The DC urged people to plant trees during the summer to help combat the effects of climate change in the country.
