Convoy of essentials reaches Kurram

Jirga memers say meeting will be held to discuss repeated violations of peace agreement

PARACHINAR/HANGU: A convoy of 120 vehicles carrying essential food supplies and daily-use items on Monday reached Parachinar and other surrounding areas.

Also, miscreants opened fire on oil tankers in Bagan in Lower Kurram area, however, no damage was caused and the vehicles safely arrived at the Alizai area in Upper Kurram.According to sources, three separate convoys carried essentials from the Thall town in Hangu to Kurram district.

The first convoy consisted of 62 small vehicles, followed by a second convoy of 58 trucks. The third convoy, carrying five oil tankers, was also dispatched to Kurram for the first time after roadblocks were lifted.

Driver Mohammad Qambar reported that while the oil tankers were leaving Bagan market under the escort of police armoured vehicles and security forces, they came under gunfire from the nearby Talo Kunj area. Despite the attack, the convoy managed to reach Alizai without any harm.

Meanwhile, members of the peace jirga said that they were being contacted about the violations of the peace accord. They said that a meeting would be held tomorrow to discuss the repeated violations of the agreement, including the fresh firing incident.

A strategy would be devised to take action against those responsible, they added.This was the first time in weeks that fuel supplies reached Parachinar following the prolonged closure of routes. Due to the fuel shortage, locals were forced to travel on foot for miles.

However, the shooting incident raised concerns.Member of the National Assembly Hamid Hussain and Member of Provincial Assembly Ali Hadi Irfani condemned the attack, saying that certain elements were trying to destabilize the region.

They said that such incidents were occurring despite the peace agreement and urged the people and local elders to thwart these efforts and play an active role in ensuring lasting peace.Hamid Hussain said that external forces were trying to disturb peace in Kurram and criticized the government for failing to protect the life and property of the people. Ali Hadi Irfani said that the issue would be raised in the upcoming peace jirga.
