PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court on Tuesday extended the protective bail of provincial Minister for Sports Syed Fakhar Jehan and Deputy Speaker Provincial Assembly Suraiya Bibi until February 13 and issued a notice to the federal government for details of the cases registered against them.
Similarly, the court also granted protective bail to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Major (r) Rashid Ahmad Tipu Kiyani and directed him to approach the relevant court for details
of the cases registered against him.
The case was heard by a two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Justice Wiqar Ahmad.The petitioners were represented by Alam Khan Adinzai, while Assistant Attorney General Daulat Khan and prosecutors Sartaj and Arbab Kaleem appeared for the federal government and National Accountability Bureau, respectively.
The petitioners’ lawyer informed the court that his clients were associated with the PTI and Fakhar Jehan was the minister for sports. A petition has been filed for the details of the cases against them, but the federal government has not yet submitted a reply.
He pleaded that they wished to appear before the relevant courts, but there were concerns that they might be arrested before appearing in court. He prayed the court that the details of the cases be provided.
The AAG informed the court that a report from the Federal Investigation Agency had been received, which showed that there was no inquiry against them. However, he said the reports from the federal government and Islamabad Police had not yet been obtained.After arguments, the court extended the protective bail of the petitioners.
Similarly, Deputy Speaker Suraiya Bibi also requested the case details, but no response had been received. NAB prosecutors informed the court that there were no cases against them in NAB. The court directed the federal government to submit the report on the cases by February 13.The bench also granted protective bail to PTI leader Rashid Tipu Kiyani and directed him to approach the relevant court for the details of cases.
