PESHAWAR: The tug of war for the office of assistant engineer senior Local Government Peshawar continues as an officer was removed seven days after his posting to give additional charge to another officer.

The deputy director technical Local Government Peshawar, who was posted as assistant engineer senior, was transferred in June last year and the additional charge was given to a deputy director of the Local Council Board who was already having the charge of Peshawar Metropolitan and the Tehsil Municipal Administration Jamrud.

It was learnt that some MPAs and MNAs as well as Local Government members approached the local government minister to withdraw the order and post back the senior engineer.

The order was cancelled and Adnan Nawaz (BPS 18) was posted back to his office on December 31. However, the tug of war for the office continued and the Secretary Local Government withdrew the December 31 order on January 7 and charge was given back to the same deputy director LCB.

A number of incumbent and former elected members have asked for transparency and merit in postings and transfers in LG and not to oblige any blue eyed officer by giving him charge of three offices. “We along with our MNAs and MPAs will meet the local government minister to ask for ensuring merit in postings as well as contracts and other affairs of the LG system for the benefit of the people,” said a former nazim and member district Zakat committee, Malik Nazir Muhammad.
