Lawmaker Sobia Shahid asked 112 questions to top the list
PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly carried out record legislation as it completed its third parliamentary year, the House was told on Friday.
Deputy Speaker Dr Mehr Taj Roghani, who presided over the session, informed the lawmakers that the assembly completed 102 days of the current parliamentary year.She said that three sessions were held and a total of 29 bills were presented and 24 of these were passed.
The KP Assembly during the last three years enacted more than 100 bills and ordinances including the Ehtesab Commission Bill, Child Protection Bill, Journalists Welfare Endowment Fund Bill, Health Foundation Bill and Board of Investment and Antiquities Protection Bills.
A total of 1,112 questions were submitted by the members and 965 of them were disposed of, she told the House.The Deputy Speaker said that Sobia Shahid topped the list of members as she submitted 112 questions. She lauded the members and assembly staff in running the House affairs in a smooth manner.
The House adopted the resolution of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) lawmaker Fakhre Azam condemning the drone attack in Balochistan. It also made a demand from the federal government and National Assembly to pass a resolution asking US President Barack Obama to seek an apology over violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty.
Through another resolution by the same legislator, the federal government was asked to order Wapda not to carry out loadshedding during Ramazan.
The House unanimously passed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Appointment of GAVI Employees Bill, 2016, accommodating the amendments introduced by about eight members both from the treasury and opposition benches.
The bill is aimed at providing employment to technicians under the Global Alliance for Vaccination and Immunization (GAVI) project on a regular basis. The employees were appointed on contract basis during the period from 2012 to June 30 2015.
The House admitted for discussion the adjournment motion of Maulana Asmatullah of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) about differences between the residents of Palas and Pattan tehsils in Kohistan district.
The MPA said that a committee of elders from Pattan had decided not to allow the people of Palas to enter their area and use the road passing through Pattan.
He said the issue may trigger a clash between people of the two areas and create law and order situation.Provincial Minister for Law Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi, however, said the road was now open and the issue had been resolved through talks.
But the mover insisted on holding discussion on the issue and the speaker admitted it.
The speaker referred to the concerned committee the privilege motion of Yasin Khalil, MPA of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.Yasin Khalil informed the House that the principal of Khyber Medical College had insulted him when he contacted him in connection with recruitment of class-IV employees in the college.
The matter, he said, was discussed with the health minister and he had agreed over the appointment of two locals against the vacant posts, but the principal recruited people from another district.
He demanded removal of the principal.The health minister said the removal of the principal would be discussed with the Board of Governors, but the mover insisted on referring the matter to the privilege committee.The speaker prorogued the session sine die.
