Work underway to repair Kumrat valley road

DIR: The work is underway to repair the flood-hit road in Kumrat valley which was damaged by floods three days ago.

“The road from Barikot to Thal is expected to be opened for traffic by Sunday evening or Monday,” an official said, adding it may take a month to restore the Thal to Kumrat Road.The road was severely damaged and traffic was suspended for three days after the heavy rainfall and flash floods in Kumrat, Thal and surrounding areas.

Deputy Commissioner Naveed Akbar had visited the affected areas and directed the authorities concerned to start work immediately and open the roads for traffic as soon as possible. The district administration and tourism authority have advised tourists not to travel to Kumrat until the road is opened to avoid further difficulties.Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner Bilal Nasir supervised the evacuation of over 200 tourists from Kumrat to their respective areas via Dir and Badgoi top.
