JHANG: Residents have urged the authorities concerned to relocate women’s inheritance facilitation counters from the assistant commissioner (AC) offices to Circle Revenue Offices for efficient service delivery.

They argue that since property division and land mutation processes are primarily handled by Circle Revenue Offices, shifting facilitation counters would streamline the process for women inheriting property. Currently, the women face difficulties accessing AC offices located in high-security zones.

The Punjab government has emphasised timely and hassle-free inheritance rights for women, aiming to combat societal and cultural barriers hindering their property claims. Local officials confirm the establishment of four women’s facilitation counters at AC offices with central monitoring. The Deputy Commissioner has directed the Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) to expedite case processing and warned revenue officials against delays.

However, residents believe that Circle Revenue Offices, as custodians of land records, are better equipped to provide comprehensive support to women seeking inheritance rights, especially those in rural and remote areas. The ACs, burdened with additional responsibilities, may face challenges in effectively addressing inheritance issues.

The local revenue officials had also been warned to ensure complete justice to the women applicants.
