195 acquitted in KP terror cases due to lack of evidence

PESHAWAR: The police and Counter-Terrorism Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have discharged 195 accused from terrorism cases due to insufficient evidence and lack of proof.

Official statistics reveal that during the period from January 1, 2024, to May 24, 2024, joint teams of the prosecution, CTD, and police discharged 191 accused under Performa B, while courts discharged four accused before indictment under section 265-D.

In Peshawar, the prosecution department’s figures indicate that 81 accused were discharged in Peshawar, 55 in Mardan and 29 in Lower Dir, due to lack of evidence.

Similarly, 14 accused were discharged in Kohat, 8 in Bannu, 4 in DI Khan, and two accused each in Swat and Buner districts were discharged from terrorism cases. According to prosecution, lack of evidence and proof against the accused in cases led to trials not being pursued.
