DIR: The Badgoi Top Road, a tourist spot and the shortest route between Upper Dir and Swat, has been reopened for traffic after five months of closure due to snow.

The road, which is located at an altitude of 3,500 meters above sea level, remains closed for five to six months every year due to heavy snowfall.

Gul Akbar Kohistani, a social activist and resident of Kumarat, told this correspondent that the road was closed due to severe snowfall.

“Now the snow has been cleared and the road reopened for traffic a few days back,” he said, adding, the tourists from different parts of the country, including Punjab, Karachi, Islamabad, and Peshawar, visit the area. “And the reopening of the road has made it easier for the tourists to travel between Swat and Upper Dir,” he added.

Officials said that the road was cleared by the Works and Services Department on the instructions of MPA Gul Ibrahim and the contractor completed the work in three days. The reopening of the road has been welcomed by locals and tourists. The locals expect an influx of tourists with the reopening of the road.
