PESHAWAR: A lawyer here on Monday filed a petition in the Peshawar High Court to seek orders for the government to establish a cancer hospital in the public sector.
Saifullah Mohib Kakakhel argued in his petition that the government had left the poor cancer patients at the mercy of the private hospitals, which were being run through donations from overseas Pakistanis and philanthropists.
He said that there was no cancer hospital in the public sector to provide treatment facilities to the people.
The petitioner said that the cancer patients were running from pillar to post to seek treatment.
He said the health sector was on the decline as the government was least bothered to provide facilities to the people.
The federal government, chief secretary, secretary of health and director general of health services were made respondents in the petition.
