Copter crash: KP Assembly passes resolution extending condolences to Iran

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly on Tuesday unanimously passed a resolution expressing grief and sorrow over the demise of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdullahian and others in a helicopter crash.

The resolution was moved by parliamentary party leader of Pakistan People’s Party, Ahmad Karim Kundi, jointly signed by Leader of Opposition Dr Ibadullah and members from treasury benches.

“This House expresses its deepest condolences and sorrow over the tragic helicopter incident that resulted in the loss of Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hussain Amir Abdullah and other esteemed personalities,” said the resolution.

It said that in this moment of profound sorrow, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly extends its heartfelt condolences to the Iranian people and the families of the deceased, reaffirming its unwavering support and solidarity during this challenging period.

Provincial Minister for Food Zahir Shah Toru said it was a tragic incident and all the members of the House, which is a representative body of the people of this province, prayed for Iranian people to bear this irreparable loss.

Provincial Minister Adnan Qadri of Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) offered fatiha for the departed souls.The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly approved a supplementary budget for 2022-23 after all the movers, mostly from the opposition benches, withdrew their cut motion against demands for grants for different provincial departments. The total volume of the supplementary stands at Rs306.520 billion of which most were spent and utilized by the last PTI government or caretaker government in the last financial year.
