Although Chrome extensions are a fantastic way to improve your online experience, some of them can make your browser load more slowly.
Researchers at DebugBear examined 5,000 extensions to determine how they affected Google Chrome.
Their research indicates that some may contribute to slower page loads, although this varies depending on the data processing method, Tech Radar reported.
As per the research report, VPNs are the worst among all extensions as they "route traffic through an intermediary server".
Other extensions, such as Trancy AI Subtitles and Klarna Pay Later, also caused long load times. It was found that extensions that run their code "after the page has loaded" can also impact Chrome, but to a seemingly lesser extent.
Furthermore, the report states that even if an extension doesn’t create slow load times, it can still cause slow page interactions.
What this means is that clicking on a website may feel slow. It was found that Avira Password Manager reportedly adds a "160 millisecond delay when clicking on random content like headings".
Installing an adblocker may improve your browsing experience. Websites with tonnes of ads directly slow down browser, however, DebugBear found that having an adblocker on your PC may save your computer's power.
